Competency Based Interviews

Feb 4, 2012

I have a competency based interview for a Network Support Assistant post. How do i prepare for the interview?

The person specification is provided below:

- Relevant degree, minimum 2:2
- Relevant work experience beneficial
- Proactive
- Technical skills
- Accurate
- Ability to take responsibility
- Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines
- Analytical and problem solving skills
- Able to cope with the pressure of high and varying work loads
- Flexible in approach to work
- Able to communicate effectively and keep others informed

What/how do I prepare? Do you have any example questions and maybe good answers to them?

I would be VERY grateful and would HIGHLY appreciate it for your help. I REALLY need this job!!!

Thanx!!

My first question is: Are you qualified for this position? You must be if they reviewed your resume and offered you an interview. The best advice I can give you is DO NOT let them know how bad you need this job. No employer wants to hire someone needy. Research the company, you may be able to use that information in the interview: comment or compliment them on a recent development or accomplishment. Hiring professionals are impressed with your advance research. Dress impeccably- professional- CLEAN, neat tailored suit- no wrinkles and polished shoes. They WILL look at your shoes. If you ARE qualified, ACT like it! If you don’t have the confidence: pretend you do. You may be looking for a job, they are looking for a solution. Be their solution.
