Behavioural Interview Questions And Answers
What if I go to an interview and they ask all kinds of behavioral questions I have no answers for?
I’m horrible at these questions where they ask “tell me a time when…” and I have no experience like that
what do I do??
Think of a couple of strengths and weaknesses, a time when you prioritised your work, a stressful situation and how you overcame it, if you might be managing staff – a time of difficulty with staff, something about how you promote equal opportunities.
Its hard to suggest answers without knowing the sort of work you are going for. If its a first job, then they will realise from your CV, and wouldn’t have shortlisted you if they didn’t think you might fit the job.
Most interviewers are bored and really want the candidate to give the right answers – they aren’t looking for you to fail!!! You can always ask to come back to a question if you are struggling for an answer. Suggest pausing and having a drink of water – it buys you 30 seconds thinking time (but don’t do that for every question!! If you really haven’t experienced the situation – then say so – but suggest what you would do if you came across it (follow the company policy or seek advice can be the start of a good answer). Good luck – its all experience!!
